What a great
time we had!! We left here Wednesday after work and headed to Tamarack Island. Got to the Gil’s Marina and Todd Hacult (the
owner) came to take us to the island. It was a beautiful 30 minute boat ride, totally
black out except for the stars and some lighting in the distance. The waves weren’t
too bad so managed to get there with our clothes still quite dry! The first
thing on the agenda was to dress up Danielle (owners daughter) like one of us!
We were going to do it last time but ran out of time! Was quite hilarious, the
funniest thing was that it all looked quite ‘normal’ on her! I don’t think her
folks quite knew what to think!! J The rest of our time there was spent
making meals, swimming, and fishing. All in all a lovely time!

Kelly and I left
with the rest of the fishing group Friday afternoon and headed to Little
Gordon Lake. We stopped and checked out Nester Falls, since we had both been
through the town a few times but had never seen the falls. They weren’t anything huge and great but I
still really liked them! I mean, water falling over rocks… you just can’t beat
it! Finally got to Little Gordon Lake and Nelson & Wanda, Tamara,
Kristopher and Mikey & Tiff were already there. Put up our tents, made a
fire and supper, and then just relaxed. Northern lights were faintly dancing to
the North and Loons were crying and the wind was gently blowing through the
pines and the water lapping at the sandy shore….. I know y’all all wish you
could have been there!! Stacy and Melissa finally got there, so talked with
them for a little before heading to bed just as the rain started. Rained some
in the night but we all stayed dry! Saturday, the guys went to put tin on one
of the cabins in the neighborhood and us girls just swam, kayaked, read, and
relaxed in the sun. Sunday, we went exploring to an old abandoned town. There
were a few log houses, a beautiful church (in its day) and a few gravestones. A
little farther on we found a dam and some other old buildings. I thought it
would be so much fun to fix it all up and make some kind of camp out of it or
something…. We found out later a man had built it as a mission post for the
natives in the area, but once he got too old and sick to take care of it, it
just went downhill. Back at camp it was raining away, so we decided to go to
Kenora for coffee. Monday dawned bright and sunny!! Most of us decided to kayak
to sand lake we had heard about. So across Little Gordon Lake we went; then
portaged to the next lake and kayaked across that one, portaged again and kayaked
to the end of that lake. We beached our kayaks there and hiked to sand lake. It
was truly beautiful. All sand and crystal clear! Rested there for a while and
then headed back! Got back and packed everything up took one last look and
headed for home.
I forgot to
mention the Little Gordon Lake was so clean and clear we could actually drink
straight from the lake! And one morning Kelly and I built a big, roaring fire
then went for a swim. Why the fire? It was 50 degrees out! J
Now I’ve just
been trying to catch up! Ben (Kelly’s little black nephew) came on Tuesday and
only left today so didn’t get a lot of extra work done. But now Kelly is gone
to Toronto so I’ve been trying to get some things done!
How was your
long weekend?

ours was great but I'm jealous of all that kayaking in that gorgeous water!! When we come up to see y'all I wanna go there!! :)
